Western Sahara

Western Sahara is a disputed territory classified by the UN as a non-self-governing region. After Spain's withdrawal in 1975, Morocco and Mauritania claimed control, though only Morocco maintains de facto administration. The Polisario Front, backed by Algeria, advocates for the territory's independence and proclaims the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (not widely recognized). Despite diplomatic efforts, the region remains marked by ongoing tensions and the lack of a definitive resolution.
